MERAS MECA
THE MERAS DISTRICT HEALTH BOARD (DHB) MULTI-EMPLOYER COLLECTIVE EMPLOYMENT AGREEMENT (MECA)
The MERAS DHB Collective Employment Agreement helps to advance the following midwifery interests:
- It enables midwives to be recognised as health professionals with their own defined scope of practice.
- It has achieved consistency of employment rates and conditions throughout the country
- It reflects regulatory and professional obligations of midwives that have emerged in response to the Health Practitioners Competency Assurance Act (HPCA) and the establishment of Midwifery Council.
- It links the midwifery workforce to their professional standards and code of ethics.
- It recognises midwifery as a discipline separate from nursing, by including employer support for midwifery competency processes that reflect new regulatory requirements.
